🛡️ India Post Speed Post Parcel Insurance – Updated 2026
Officially listed insurance availability, compensation limits and what to verify before booking.
India Post lists an insurance facility for eligible Speed Post Parcel (Domestic) consignments, with insurance available up to ₹5,00,000, subject to the applicable service conditions and availability at the booking office. This is not a blanket promise that every item or every post office can insure a parcel for the maximum amount.
What India Post currently confirms
| Item | Published information |
|---|---|
| Insurance availability | Available for Speed Post Parcel consignments |
| Maximum stated cover | Up to ₹5 lakh |
| Insurance premium | The current public Speed Post Parcel page does not provide a complete premium rate chart. Confirm the charge at the booking office. |
| Claim settlement | Subject to the service terms, proof of value, booking details and India Post verification. No universal three-month settlement promise is stated here. |
Do not confuse insurance with standard compensation
India Post separately lists the following compensation for Speed Post Parcel:
- Delay: Speed Post charges.
- Loss, pilferage or damage: Double the Speed Post charges or ₹1,000, whichever is less.
These standard compensation limits are not the same as an insured-value claim. An insurance claim is governed by the applicable insurance terms and evidence requirements. Do not assume the declared value will automatically be paid.
Before you book an insured parcel
- Ask the booking post office whether insurance is available for your selected Speed Post Parcel service and declared contents.
- Ask for the premium, maximum accepted declared value and any packaging/sealing requirements applicable to that booking.
- Keep the booking receipt, consignment number, proof of value and any insurance endorsement safely.
- If there is loss or damage, contact India Post promptly and follow the official complaint and claim instructions.
