How India Post Speed Post SMS Delivery Alerts Work (2026 Guide)

India Post’s current Speed Post Parcel information says customers can receive an SMS on their registered mobile number when the consignment is received at the delivery post office and a confirmation SMS upon delivery.

1. Provide the correct mobile number at the time of booking.
2. Ask the booking counter staff to verify that the mobile number is entered correctly.
3. Keep your booking receipt and consignment number.
4. Check the official Track & Trace service if you need the complete event history.

Important: India Post’s current Speed Post Parcel page does not confirm the older on-demand SMS format and short codes 166 / 51969. This guide therefore does not recommend those old instructions. It also does not claim that email alerts, four-stage notifications or delivery OTPs are available for every Speed Post item.
