Postal services checklist
A letter sent to a government department should be addressed exactly as specified in the department’s instructions. The sender should keep a copy of the application and proof of dispatch.
Before you seal the envelope
- Verify the department, office and section name from its official instructions
- Include the recipient designation if specified
- Write the full postal address and PIN code
- Add your return address and contact details
- Check the application’s enclosure list and signature requirements
Choose and record the service
Ask India Post which service suits the destination and whether tracking or acknowledgement options are available. Retain the receipt and article number.
Keep a follow-up file
Store a copy of the application, enclosures, receipt and any delivery record together.
