India Post publishes average delivery standards for Speed Post Parcel and lists compensation for delay, loss, pilferage or damage. These standards are not guaranteed delivery appointments, and eligibility depends on the service and applicable terms.

Published average delivery standards

Destination category Average time
Local 1–2 days
Metro to Metro 1–3 days
State Capital to State Capital 1–4 days
Same State 1–4 days
Rest of the Country 4–5 days

India Post notes that delivery to Branch Offices can take one additional day. Check the current route category and actual booking details before deciding that an article is delayed.

What compensation does India Post list?

Delay

Speed Post charges.

Loss, pilferage or damage

Double the Speed Post charges or ₹1,000, whichever is less.

These are the standard compensation details published on the Speed Post Parcel page. They are not a promise of an automatic refund; submit a complaint and let India Post assess the case under the applicable rules. Insurance, where separately booked and available, is subject to its own conditions.

When can you file a complaint?

India Post says a complaint relating to a service may be registered after the prescribed delivery norm has expired and within 60 days of the transaction.

How to file and follow up

  1. Keep the original booking receipt and consignment number.
  2. Check the latest tracking events and compare the route with the published service standard.
  3. Register a complaint through the official India Post grievance process or at a post office.
  4. Save the acknowledgement/reference number and follow the complaint status.
  5. If it is not settled within a reasonable period, follow the escalation route to the concerned Circle Nodal Officer described in the official guidelines.
